Underwater Plant Animation
In this tutorial you will learn how to turn a photo of underwater plants into realistic animation that will be suitable for video editing, banner creation, and game design.
Step 1: Open the Plant Picture
For this tutorial, we will use Photoshop for preparing the picture, but you can do the same in any other photo editor.
Step 2: Select the Surrounding
Now we need to select all the area that is surrounding the plant. Go to Select > Color Range... and set the appropriate color and fuzziness parameter in the tool dialog.
Step 3: Cut Off the Plant Image
Double click on the lock icon on the layer area to unlock picture layer and then press Del to clear the picture.
When you are satisfied with the result, save the picture in PNG format.
Step 4: Preparing the Scene
Open DP Animation Maker and set the Effect property to "No Background" and change the canvas size to 512x512 pixels.
Step 5: Load the Plant Picture
Click the Add animation button, select the “Import Image...” in the second list, click Add, and open the picture you saved in Step 3.
Step 6: Set the Bend Animation
Click the Add animation button again and select the Bend brush tool in the third list. Then activate the Effect center tab and place the center marker near the plant root.
Activate the Motion properties tab and set the following parameters: Speed = 29, Amplitude 1 = 25, Amplitude 2 = 25, Apply animation to = whole scene, then paint over the picture.
Step 7: Set the Wave Animation
Click the Add animation button again and select the Wave brush tool in the third list. Activate the Wave Properties tab and set the following parameters: Speed = 17, Amplitude = 29, Wave length = 200, Direction = 90, Apply animation to = whole scene. After that, paint over the top of the plant as shown in the screenshot.
